Pete the cat too cool for school
This week, we learned to make Podcasts. My friend Eden (who's also in the teaching program I am in) and I chose to read a book - specifically Pete the Cat Too Cool for School. This was a fun, albeit frustrating experience. We knew we wanted background music in our recording, so we needed to find cheerful, copyright free music, and then figure out how to combine the two audio files together. Then Garageband downloaded our audio file into the wrong format, and that was another hurdle to jump over. Now that this assignment is finished, I think podcasts are a great way for students to receive information without being in a classroom. They can benefit all students and can be more helpful than in-person lectures because they can be listened to multiple times, so if information was missed the first time, you can go back and find it - a task some students may struggle to in person.
I never knew how simple it could be to record and produce a simple podcast such as this one. Obviously, longer episodes would be more difficult, and more editing would be required if not done in a single take. I think that podcasts would be something I'd want to integrate into my future classroom, because students work at their own pace, and having a recording to listen to could be great.
